De gustibus non est disputandum
Anonymous asked: This might not be related, but I have a black-tie event coming up where I'm inviting a lady friend to accompany me. She's never been to a black-tie event and is unsure about what is appropriate formal wear. I don't want to dictate her wardrobe when she's accompanying me, but I want to ensure that she's well received at the gala.
The various lines with regards to black tie dress are getting blurrier and blurrier these days, but in general I think she should be safe in a tasteful longer dress or skirt or what have you. Depending on the event and level of formality, I think shorter dresses are becoming more commonplace, but may as well play it safe if you’re not sure. Rarely can you go wrong with simple elegance.
